Growing Up

I want to leave stories of my childhood for my kids to know more about me and their grandparents. I had a wonderful childhood, I love my memories.  Yes, they may have been super overprotective but all in all, it was great.

I was born in Yreka, CA Nov 2,1965.  My dad, Ed Henry (Clarence Edwin Henry) who also went by C.E. Henry, was a minister and I believe he was the one who planted the Church of Christ in Yreka.  My mom, Dorris Etta (Wing) Henry was a stay at home mom who previously had been a teacher's aide.  We lived in a home at 155 Gold St, not too far from the church building.  To make ends meet my dad also drove school bus.  I remember one person who also drove bus and we would go to his house to visit.  His name was Howard Trivelpiece.  He had amazing gardens. I can picture the entrance to his garden on the right side of his house. I googled him and discovered that he died in 2014 at the age of 101. When we were working on the remodel of our house in Creswell, I bought a box of tile at BRING (recycling) and on the box was an address label....to Howard Trivelpiece in Yreka!  What an amazing coincidence!  In reading his obituary I discovered that his son lives in Eugene, so I guess that explains it. He must have been a great man for me to remember him, his name, his house, gardens and his occupation.  Well back to my story...I can picture in my mind most of what our house on Main st looked like.  I know my parents room was in the front on the right, my room was next to theirs.  Living room was on the left & you walked straight through to the back of the house to the kitchen with the stairs on the left just before you enetered the kitchen.  There was a back porch/utility room.  I cannot remember where the bathroom was.  Perhaps because we moved from there when I was 2, I believe so I may not have used the bathroom all that much. I remember my Grandpa Henry coming to visit while we lived there. The park was a couple of blocks from our house, across a busy street.  I can visualize the things that we played on.  Specifically a lady bug that we climbed through.  Many years ago we stopped there on our way to Disneyland and that lady bug was still there!  I have been told that when I was 18 mos old I disappeared.  They found me at the park! I had crossed that busy street all by myself!  YIKES!
